About Madhubani Art Centre – Art & Craft in South Delhi
Living over here in Mount Kailash at B-127 means we are tucked away a bit. People usually find us because they heard about the paintings from a neighbor or saw us while walking by. We have been doing this for a long time, mostly because we enjoy the colors and the way things look when they're finished. It isn't a massive gallery like the ones you see in the city center. It’s more of a personal space where we keep our supplies and work on different pieces throughout the day. Some mornings are quiet and we just sit with the brushes and the ink, and other times people drop in to ask questions about the patterns. We have a lot of stuff piled up in the corners because we never seem to throw anything away. The light in the afternoon is actually quite good for seeing the details on the paper. It gets a bit crowded when we get a new shipment of frames in, and we have to move the furniture around to make space. It’s just how we live and work here. We don't spend much time on fancy displays or lighting. If you come by, you’ll probably see someone working on a border or mixing colors on a plastic plate. It is a slow process but we don’t mind. It feels right to keep the tradition going in our own small way without making a big fuss about it. We just hope the art speaks for itself and that people find something they like to look at.
