Gallery Pioneer

You can find Gallery Pioneer down in Hauz Khas Village. We’re on the ground floor of 1/A. It’s a busy area with lots of people walking by all the time, especially on the weekends when tourists come through. We’ve been in this spot for quite some time now. The gallery isn’t huge, but we have enough space for the art we keep here on the walls and in the back. Most mornings start with just opening up and dusting the frames. It’s a lot of manual work that people don't see when they look at the art. We get all sorts of people walking in, some who know a lot about art and others who are just taking a shortcut through the village. We don't really do the whole high-end gallery act. It's just a shop where we show things we think are interesting. The walls are usually full. Sometimes we have to move things around to make room for new pieces. It’s a bit of a squeeze sometimes. Working in Hauz Khas means dealing with the narrow lanes and the noise, but we’re used to it after all these years. We don't have a big marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us running the place day to day. We spend a lot of time talking to the artists who drop by. It’s a simple way of living for us. We just keep the lights on and wait for the next person to walk through the door.
