Fulkari Carpets Emporium

Fulkari Carpets Emporium is located down in the basement at F-14, Lajpat Nagar-I. Being in a basement means it stays a bit cooler in the summer months, which is a real blessing in Delhi. It’s not the easiest place to find if you’re just walking by on the sidewalk, but once you come down the stairs, you’ll see we have a lot of stuff packed in here. It's a bit of a maze of carpets and rugs. We don’t have any huge windows, so we rely on those long fluorescent lights to see what we’re doing every day. It’s a practical space for us. We don’t have a big sign outside, just a small one near the stairs. Lajpat Nagar is always a bit of a mess with parking and people, but it’s a great place for a business to be located. We get all kinds of visitors. Sometimes we’re just sitting here drinking tea when someone pops their head in to ask a question. We don't use any high-pressure sales tactics or anything like that. We just show you what’s currently on the racks. The air can get a bit stuffy down here, so we keep the fans running all day long to stay comfortable. It’s a family-run sort of thing, and we don’t have a lot of corporate rules about how things are done. We just make sure the work gets finished and people are happy with what they take home with them. It’s a quiet life in a basement and that suits us fine.
