Bhat Carpet Factory

Bhat Carpet Factory is over at B-149 in Lajpat Nagar-I. If you know Delhi, you know how hectic Lajpat Nagar can be with all the shoppers and the narrow lanes. Our place is a bit of a sanctuary from that, even if it is noisy in its own way with the work going on. We call it a factory, but it is really more of a large workshop where things happen by hand. There is always a lot of dust in the air from the wool, and you can usually hear the rhythmic sound of the tools being used. We have been in this spot for a long time, and the building has definitely aged with us. The floors are a bit uneven and the walls are covered in marks from moving heavy bales around. We do not have a fancy showroom with spotlights. If you want to see what we have, you usually have to look through the piles yourself while we move things around to help. We are just regular people who know a lot about rugs and not much about fancy business talk. Most of our day is spent checking the quality of the knots or talking to the workers about the latest patterns. It is a messy, loud, and busy place, but it is our home and we wouldn't have it any other way.
