If you ever find yourself in Sitapur, specifically around the Koknamau area, you might see us working near Anup Kumar’s place in Haripal. We set up Kamlapur Fed Farmer Producer Company Limited because the local farmers needed a way to talk to the bigger buyers without getting pushed around. It is not some big operation with a lobby and a receptionist. Usually, it is just Anup and a couple of others sitting around a wooden table with some ledgers. The air in Sitapur smells like earth and harvest, and that is what we deal in every single day. Some mornings the fog is so thick you can’t see the end of the lane, which makes getting the produce to the collection point a bit of a gamble. We have our fair share of arguments about which seeds are better or when the rain is finally going to show up. It is mostly just about keeping the community going. We don’t have a lot of fancy equipment, so a lot of the work is still done by hand, which keeps everyone busy. The paperwork can be a headache, and sometimes we lose a pen or two in the chaos of the harvest, but we get it done eventually. We are just people from Haripal trying to make sure the work we do in the fields actually pays off at the end of the month so we can support our kids and fix our homes.
