Barkhana Harchandpur Farmers Producer Company Limited

We are located in the village of Barakhan, specifically at Anil Kumar’s place. Nawabganj is the nearest bigger town people know. This company is a group effort by the farmers from around Barkhana and Harchandpur. We felt like we needed to get organized so we could manage our produce better. Most days, someone is stopping by Anil’s to discuss the latest prices or to figure out where we’re going to get fertilizer. It’s not a formal setup with suits and ties. We’re usually in our boots and covered in dust. The work is steady and it doesn’t stop just because it’s a holiday or the weekend. We have to look after the crops every single day. Being part of a producer company helps us when it comes to the logistics. Instead of five different people trying to hire a truck, we do it together. It’s just common sense for people living in a place like this. We know the land here because our fathers and grandfathers worked it before us. There’s a lot of history in these fields. Sometimes the crops don't do well and we have to figure out how to bridge the gap until the next harvest. It’s just the reality of living off the land in Barakhan. We don't spend much time on the computer, mostly just keeping the books in order at the village house. It’s a local operation run by people who actually live and work in this area every day of the year.
