Pawan Aluminium

You can find Pawan Aluminium right on Sevoke Road, directly opposite the Gurudwara here in Darjeeling district. Being right across from the Gurudwara makes it easy for people to find us without needing a map. We work with aluminium, mostly making frames and sections that people use for their windows or office partitions. It’s a noisy job, with the sounds of cutting and moving metal, so the shop usually has a lot of clatter going on throughout the day. We have bits and pieces of scrap metal in the corners and the smell of cut metal is always in the air. The traffic on Sevoke Road is usually pretty bad, so we see a lot of people looking out of their car windows while they’re stuck. We started this shop because there weren't many places doing metal work around here back then. It’s not a big factory, just a decent-sized workshop where we can get things measured and cut. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to sit and wait before we can finish a job, but that’s just how it is here. We keep a simple notebook of all the measurements and what’s been paid. Most of our regular customers are local builders or guys fixing up their own places. We just try to get the pieces cut right and ready when we said we would, though things sometimes take a day longer if the truck is delayed or the weather gets bad.
