Master Times

Master Times is located inside the International Market on Sevoke Road, which is right in the Darjeeling district. If you’ve ever walked through the market, you know how it gets on the weekends—it’s packed with people and full of noise. We’ve been here for a good while now, tucked away in our own space. Our work involves a lot of sitting still and looking at very small things, which is a big contrast to the loud street right outside our doors. The air in Darjeeling can get quite chilly, so we usually have some hot tea going while we work. The shop isn't very large, but we’ve managed to fit everything we need into the shelves and various cabinets over the years. Dealing with timepieces means you have to be very patient, and that’s basically how we run the whole business. We don't go in for big ads or anything like that. People mostly find us just by walking through the market or hearing about us from someone else who lives nearby. Sevoke Road is a main artery here, so there's always something happening right outside the door. Sometimes the heavy rain makes things very quiet, and other times the crowds of tourists make it feel a bit frantic. We just keep the shop open and handle whatever needs fixing or selling. It’s a steady way to live. The International Market has changed over the years, but we’re still here in the same spot, doing what we’ve always done for the local community.
