Yelkot Farms Private Limited is our small operation located in Alkud, which is a village in the Kavathemahankal taluka. Our specific spot is at M. No. 520, and that is where we do most of our daily business. If you know Sangli, you know that Kavathemahankal can be quite dry compared to other areas, so we have to be smart about how we use water and manage the land. It’s a family-run kind of setup. We don't have a lot of workers, so we end up doing most of the heavy lifting ourselves. The mornings are usually the best time to get out there before the sun gets too high in the sky. We grow what we can and try to keep the soil healthy using what we have available. Being a private limited company sounds formal, but on the ground, it’s just us in our work clothes dealing with the dirt and the crops. Some days we are just fixing the tractor or checking on the irrigation lines. Alkud is a quiet place and we like it that way. We've been at this for a while now, and every season brings a different set of problems to solve. It keeps us busy and keeps our hands dirty, which is how it should be on a farm in rural Maharashtra. We just take it one day at a time.
