Shivtej Shetkari Producer Company Limited is located at Vilas Baburao Patil’s place in Islampur. We’re in the Walwa taluka of Sangli, a region where farming is just a way of life for most families. We started this company to bring together the local farmers and see if we could manage our business better. It’s a small group, mostly people who have known each other for years. We don’t have a fancy office; we just use Vilas’s house as our base for meetings and keeping our records. It feels much better than working entirely on our own. We deal with the usual crops grown here in Sangli, like sugarcane and some vegetables. The work is hard and the hours are long, but that’s just how it is. Having a producer company allows us to buy things like fertilizer in bulk, which helps with the costs. We also try to find better ways to sell our produce so we aren't just taking whatever price the first buyer offers. It’s an honest, local business. We are still getting the hang of all the private limited company rules and the accounting, but we are making progress. We are proud to be from Islampur and we want to see the local farming families do well. There are no big promises here, just a bunch of us working hard and hoping for good rain and fair prices each season.
