Kisandhan Farmer Producer Company Limited is run right from Tukaram Maruti Agawane’s home in the village of Giravi. We are in the Phaltan taluka, an area where farming is the backbone of everything. We are a group of local growers who decided to register as a company to have a bit more weight when we go to the market. It’s not a fancy business with a glass front. Most of our work happens in the fields or in Tukaram’s living room where we keep the books. We focus on the crops that grow well in the Phaltan soil. It’s a lot of hard work, and we don't always get the results we want, but being together helps us stay strong. We can buy our supplies in larger quantities now, which saves us a bit of cash. None of us are business experts; we just learn by doing. Sometimes we make mistakes with the paperwork, but we figure it out eventually. Giravi is a small place, so word gets around quickly when we’re doing something new. We just want to make sure that the farmers here get what they deserve for their labor. It’s about being practical and looking out for our own. We don't have any big mission statements, just a group of people trying to make a living from the earth. Every season is different, and we just take it as it comes without complaining too much.
