Kokanvishwa Farmers Producer Company Limited. Mandangad, Ratnagiri. This company started right here in Peve village. Tukaram Gangaram Takhe’s place is where we mostly meet up. If you know Mandangad, you know the land is different here in Ratnagiri. It’s the Konkan belt, which means plenty of greenery, but the terrain can be tricky for farming. We formed this producer company to get organized. Honestly, individually we were struggling to get our produce to the bigger buyers. Working together changed that. Mangoes, cashews, and whatever else is growing in the season are what we talk about most. Usually, it’s a lot of talking over tea. No big corporate building exists here. Just a simple setup holds our files while we plan the next harvest. The roads around here can be rough during the monsoon, making logistics a real headache. Figuring out how to share the costs of trucks takes up our time. It’s practical stuff. Most of us have been farming since our fathers taught us. The trees and the weather patterns of this coast are familiar to us all. Being a farmer producer company helps us deal with the government rules which are quite confusing sometimes. Making sure the work we do in the fields actually brings some money home is what matters. Sticking together as a community in Mandangad is the plan. We are just simple people trying to make a living from our orchards and fields.
