Jandoot Farmer Producer Company Limited

Kuchi is a quiet place in the K-Mahankal taluka of Sangli district. That is where we all live and work. We started Jandoot Farmer Producer Company because we were tired of being the last ones to find out about prices or new seeds. Our village is small, and sometimes it feels like the rest of the world forgets about us out here in Sangli. We grow what we can with the water we have. Some years are good, and some years we just hope to break even. We meet up at the local post office area or someone’s porch to discuss the company business. It’s mostly about how to get our stuff to the bigger markets without it rotting on the way or getting a bad price. We don't have a lot of fancy equipment or a polished office with computers and desks. Our hands are usually dirty from the fields when we get together. We are just local people trying to make a living from the land. The company is our tool to help with that. We handle everything from buying seeds to talking to the traders who come through. It’s a steep learning curve for us because we’re more used to handling a plow than a ledger book. But we’re getting there slowly. We just want to keep our community in Kuchi strong and make sure the farming life stays viable for the next generation of kids who want to stay here and work.
