If you head out to Kardakhaman in Kuchinda, you’ll find us at Biprabar Bhainsa’s place. Maasamalei Farmer Producer Company Limited is what we call ourselves. We’re right here in the Sambalpur district, where the farming is a way of life for almost everyone you meet. Our group is made up of local folks who grow all sorts of things. We figured that if we pooled our resources, we could handle the buyers and the suppliers a lot better than just going at it alone. It’s a lot of work, and there’s always something that needs fixing or a person who needs help with their paperwork. We aren't experts in everything, but we know these fields. The office is a busy spot during the harvest season. People are coming and going, trucks are being loaded, and there’s always a lot of talk about the prices and the rain. We don’t use any fancy talk or complicated systems. We just use what we have and try to make it work. Sometimes we disagree on what to plant, but we always figure it out. It’s about the community here in Kuchinda more than anything else. We stay busy, we keep our heads down, and we try to do right by the land and the people who work it every day. It’s just how we get by in this part of Orissa.
