Jamankira College is right here in the Jamankira area of Sambalpur. It’s a bit of a different pace of life out here than what you might find in the bigger cities. Most of our students come from the surrounding villages and towns nearby. The campus is where we spend our whole day, from the early morning until the sun starts to go down. We have a few buildings that house the classrooms and the office where we handle all the paperwork. It’s a lot of paper, to be honest. The grounds are usually buzzing with students talking between their classes or sitting under the trees when the weather is nice. We don't have fancy air conditioning or anything like that; we just rely on the breeze and the ceiling fans to keep us cool while we work. Sambalpur can get quite hot, so we all just do our best to stay out of the sun during the middle of the day. The staff here are mostly local people who have been around for a long time. We know the families of the students, and it feels like a very tight-knit community. There is always something that needs fixing, whether it’s a leaky roof or a broken desk, but we just handle it as it comes. It’s a simple life at the college, focused on getting through the syllabus and helping the students move forward with their lives.
