Living and working around Sambalpur, you get used to the pace of things here. Gangadhar Mer Autonomous College is situated right in the middle of it all. It is a big place with a lot of history. You can see it in the way the buildings look and the way the trees have grown up around the campus. Students come from all over the area to spend their days here, sitting in the lecture halls or hanging out in the courtyards during their breaks. Being an autonomous college means we have our own way of doing things. This keeps us busy with paperwork and planning. The weather in Sambalpur can be quite unpredictable. Heavy rains sometimes make the grounds a bit muddy, but the students don't seem to mind much. We spend a lot of our time managing the day-to-day stuff, like making sure the schedules are posted and the classrooms are unlocked. It is a loud place during the change of classes when everyone is moving around at once. You can hear the chatter and the sound of bicycles and motorbikes coming in through the gates. It is not a polished or shiny institution. It feels lived-in and real. There are always posters on the walls and stacks of books in the offices. We just focus on keeping the place running as best as we can, making sure the daily routine is followed so the college stays on track for the year.
