Dr. J.K. Sahu (Junior) College

If you travel out to Parmanpur in Sambalpur, you’ll find us easily enough. We are a junior college that serves the local students from this area. A lot of the kids here come from farming families or small local trades, so they are hard-working and don't expect anything too fancy. Our college building is quite plain, sitting out where there's a bit more space than in the city center. We spend our days teaching the standard subjects required for the higher secondary levels. The classrooms are filled with students who often travel a good distance to get here, some by bus and others on their own bikes. We have a small staff room where the teachers sit and grade papers while drinking tea between their classes. There’s no big cafeteria, so students usually sit under the trees or on the steps to eat their tiffin during the afternoon break. It can get very hot during the summer months, and we just do our best with the fans we have. We don't have a massive library, but we have enough books for the students to get through their exams. It’s a quiet life out here in Parmanpur compared to the town, but we keep busy enough with the daily schedule and keeping the place running. It’s just a local college doing what it can for the youth here. We aren't doing anything world-changing, just basic education for the neighborhood.
