Priyam Nursery & Primary School Ammapettai

Ammapettai is a busy part of Salem, and our school is right on Marimuthu Street, taking up plots 43 and 44. Priyam Nursery and Primary has been part of this neighborhood for a while now, and we’ve seen plenty of kids grow up and move on to high school from here. The building isn’t anything out of the ordinary; it’s just a functional space with classrooms that fit about twenty kids each. We have a lot of plants near the entrance because it makes the place feel a bit more alive against the dusty street outside. The sound of the traffic from the main road is always there in the background, but the kids are used to it. Every morning, there’s a bit of a shuffle as bags are put away and the first bell rings. We don’t use a lot of big words or complicated systems. We just follow the basic syllabus and make sure the children know how to read and write properly. The parents often stop by the gate to have a quick word with the teachers about how their child is doing. It’s very informal and direct. On rainy days, the porch gets a bit crowded with umbrellas, and we have to remind the kids not to run on the wet floors. It’s a very local, hands-on kind of place where everyone knows everyone else. We have a small storage room where we keep all the extra chalk.
