Obli Granites

Out here in Omalur Taluk, things move a bit slower than in the big cities. Our yard, Obli Granites, is situated at No: 1 in Sellapillaikuttai. It is a rural spot, and we are surrounded by a lot of open space which helps when we have large loads of stone coming in. We spend a lot of our time outdoors, regardless of the weather. When it is sunny, the granite gets really hot to the touch, and when it rains, the ground gets soft, but we just keep at it. We are not big on office work or sitting behind a desk. Most of the day is spent checking the quality of the blocks and making sure the edges are clean. People from the village and the surrounding taluk come to us when they are building something new. We have known most of our customers since they were kids. It is a family-run kind of thing, very low-key. We do not put up big signs or do much advertising; word of mouth usually does the trick around here. If you walk into the yard, you will see stacks of granite and maybe a couple of us eating lunch in the shade of the shed. It is hard work, but there is something nice about working with your hands and seeing the finished stone leave on a truck to go become part of someone's home. It is honest work and it suits us fine.
