Nilgiri Catering

Nilgiri Catering is situated in Niwaranpur over in the Doranda area. It is a local operation where we focus mostly on getting the food right for small and medium gatherings. Our kitchen is not a high-tech place it is just full of big stoves and stacks of those round metal plates that we have to wash by hand after every event. We spend a lot of time sourcing the rice and the spices from the local markets because we like to see what we are buying before it goes into the pot. The neighborhood of Niwaranpur is where we have lived for a long time so we are used to the rhythms of the place. We do not have a big marketing team or anything like that. Most of our work comes from people just telling their neighbors about us after they have eaten our food at a wedding or a birthday. It gets very hot in the kitchen during the summer months and we all end up pretty tired by the time the last tray of food is sent out. We try to keep things organized but when you have fifty kilos of potatoes to peel things can get a bit messy on the floor. We just focus on making sure the salt is right and the food is served hot whenever we are called to work.
