Nikhil Cement & Steel

Our place, Nikhil Cement & Steel, is right near the Yard Market and it stays fairly noisy around here from morning until the sun goes down. Being so close to the market means there is always traffic and people moving about. We handle both cement and steel which keeps us on our toes because they are very different to move around. The steel rods are heavy and take up a lot of room while the cement bags have to stay away from any dampness on the floor. We spend a lot of time checking the weather and making sure the tarps are pulled tight over everything. Some days the yard gets really crowded with tractors and small trucks trying to load up at the same time. It’s a bit of a scramble to keep things organized but we manage. Most of the guys working here have been around for a long time so they know the drill. We don’t bother with much fancy talk, we just get the items weighed and loaded so the customers can get back to their construction sites. It is dusty work and by the end of the shift our clothes are usually a mess. We have a small corner for water and sitting down for a bit when the rush dies down. The market nearby is good for grabbing a quick snack while we wait for the next delivery to arrive at the yard.
