The Government Primary School

We are located on Xavier Church Street in Mudaliarpet. Being a government primary school means we serve the local families right here in Pondicherry. The building is an older one, but it does the job. We have high ceilings and heavy doors. The rooms stay relatively cool even when it’s hot outside. Every morning, the kids line up for prayer and then they go to their classes. It’s a basic environment. We have the usual blackboards and chalk. Sometimes the chalk dust gets everywhere, but that’s just part of it. The teachers are from around the area and they’ve been with us for years. We don’t have a big budget for decorations, so we just keep things clean and functional. The street outside is usually busy with people going to the church or the local shops. We are just one part of the neighborhood. The children learn their lessons and play in the courtyard during their break time. We make sure the midday meals are ready on time. It’s a lot of routine, which is good for the kids. There’s no pretense here. We are just a school for the people living in Mudaliarpet. We open the gate early and close it once the last student has gone home. It’s simple and steady work every single day. The bell rings at the same time every morning and we just start over again.
