Annai Abirami National School

Annai Abirami National School is located at No.3 on Kamarajar Salai in Kottucherry-Karaikal. Being in Karaikal, we get that salty sea air and plenty of humidity throughout the year. The school building is right on the main road, so it’s very easy for everyone to find. It’s a two-story building with a small yard in the middle. The walls are painted a pale yellow that has faded a bit over time. Inside, the classrooms have high ceilings and heavy fans that make a clicking sound as they spin. We have a small library with some old books that the students like to look at during their free periods. The teachers use a lot of chalk, so there’s always a bit of white dust on their clothes and on the floor. In the mornings, the students line up for the national anthem and you can hear their voices echoing off the walls. The office is a small room near the stairs where the principal sits behind a large wooden desk covered in files. We have a few benches outside where parents sit and wait if they have to pick up their children early. The school bell is just a piece of iron that someone hits with a hammer, and everyone knows that sound very well. It’s a simple, local school where we just go about our daily business of teaching the kids without any extra drama or fancy equipment.
