Akal Jot Public Sr. Sec

Akal Jot Public Sr. Sec is out in Vpo Shergarh, right on the Kaithal Road which is also State Highway 8. Being in Patiala, we get a lot of trucks and tractors passing by all day long. The school sits on a decent piece of land so we have some room for the kids to breathe. We have a row of trees near the boundary wall that gives some shade during the hot afternoons. The building is a long structure with a porch where students line up. Inside, the hallways are cool because the walls are thick. We have a lot of students who come from the surrounding villages, often arriving on bicycles or the school bus. It’s a practical place without any extra decorations or fancy stuff. We have a small office where the principal sits, and there’s usually a tea kettle going somewhere nearby. The desks are the heavy iron and wood type that last forever. We spend a lot of time keeping the dust off the books because of the highway being so close. It’s a very local atmosphere where everyone speaks Punjabi and knows each other’s families. We focus on the lessons and making sure the kids behave themselves. It’s a straightforward school for the people living around Shergarh. We don't try to be something we aren't, we just provide a place for learning that stays open even when the weather gets rough.
