Rakesh Hair Cutting

Down here in Subhash Nagar, life moves at its own pace. My shop, Rakesh Hair Cutting, has been part of this street for quite a while. It’s not a place with glowing lights or expensive posters on the walls. I have two old chairs that have some cracks in the leather, but they are comfortable enough for a twenty-minute sit. Most people who live around here know where to find me. They come in after their shifts or on their way to the market. I keep my tools clean and sharp because that is what matters in this line of work. Sometimes the tea seller from next door brings over a cup and we sit for a minute when there are no customers. The walls are painted a simple blue that is starting to peel a bit near the ceiling. I don’t mind it much. In Subhash Nagar, people care more about the work than how fancy the shop looks. I see a lot of students and office workers who just want a quick trim so they don’t get in trouble at school or work. We have a small radio that plays the local news sometimes. It gets a bit dusty because of the road, but we wipe things down every morning. It is a steady way to earn a living and I like talking to the regulars who have been coming since they were boys. It isn't a famous place, but it's been here for years and people know the blue door.
