Bherunath Hair Dresser

Bherunath Hair Dresser is a local spot in Sadri, located right at the Akharia Chowk in Ranakpur. Being in the chowk means we see everything that happens in the middle of the town. The shop isn't very big, just a single room with a couple of chairs and some basic tools. We do mostly simple haircuts and shaves for the men and boys around here. There is a big window out front, but we usually keep the curtain half-closed because the sun gets very strong in the afternoon. We have a few old posters of movie stars on the walls that have been there for years and are starting to turn yellow. Most of the day, we have the local radio on, playing songs or the weather report. People stop by not just for a haircut, but often just to sit on the bench outside and chat for a few minutes. We use regular scissors and hand clippers mostly, though we have one electric one that we use when we have power. The floor is concrete and we sweep it out into the street every evening before we lock up. It’s a quiet life in Sadri, and we don't try to make it more than it is. We know almost everyone who walks through the door by name, and they know us. It’s just a neighborhood place where you can get a quick trim without any fuss or high prices.
