Mahendra Hair Cutting is on Punayata Road, specifically in Shekhawat Nagar at number 41346. It’s a straightforward shop with a couple of those heavy barber chairs that can lean back. The mirrors are large and go across most of the wall, reflecting the street outside. Punayata Road can get pretty loud with the traffic, especially in the evenings when everyone is headed home. We have a small TV in the corner that usually has the news or some show playing, mostly for background noise. The floor is a bit worn down from people walking in and out all day. We keep the scissors and combs in jars of liquid on the counters. There’s usually a pile of old newspapers or magazines on a small table for anyone waiting their turn. It’s not a fancy place with air conditioning, just a couple of ceiling fans that do their job well enough. You’ll see hair on the floor most of the time because we’re busy moving from one person to the next. The sink in the back has a slight stain from the water, but it works fine for washing up. It’s a local spot where people from Shekhawat Nagar come to get cleaned up. We open the shutters early and usually stay until the sun goes down and the street lights come on. There is a tea stall nearby so we often have a cup between customers.
