Shri Balaji Sweetsmatthi Wala

Our shop is located in Tilak Nagar, specifically at Ravi Nagar WZ-52. We’ve been here for a while, mostly making traditional sweets and different kinds of matthi. If you come by in the afternoon, the whole street usually smells like frying dough. We spend most of our time in the back where the big fryers are. It’s hot and greasy work, but that’s just how it goes in this business. We make big batches of salty snacks that we store in large glass jars on the front counter. People in the neighborhood know us for the basic stuff they need for tea time or when they have guests over. We don't have a lot of space for sitting, so most people just buy their snacks and head home. During festivals, it gets really chaotic in here. We end up working late into the night to keep the shelves full because the demand for sweets just goes up so much. The shop isn't fancy at all. We have plain counters and some old shelves. Sometimes we run out of a particular type of matthi because we didn't make enough that morning, and we just have to tell the customers to come back tomorrow. We don't use any special machines; a lot of it is still done by hand, rolling the dough and cutting it into shapes. It’s just a regular local shop trying to keep up with the daily rush here in Tilak Nagar.
