You can find Manohar Lal Desh Deepak at 608, Katra Ishwar Bhawan. We are on the first floor in the Khari Baoli area. If you’ve ever been to this part of Delhi, you know how crowded it gets. The smell of spices is everywhere, and it’s always loud with people shouting and carts moving back and forth. Our office is up a narrow flight of stairs. It’s an old building, so the walls are thick and the rooms are a bit dark, but it stays cooler than the street outside. We’ve been operating out of this spot for years. The name on the door is old, and so is most of the furniture. We don’t see the point in changing things just for the sake of it. Most of our day is spent talking to traders or checking the stock that comes in from the market downstairs. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We don’t use a lot of fancy technology here. A lot of things are still written down in ledgers. It’s just the way we’ve always done it. When the market is in full swing, it can be quite overwhelming for someone who isn’t used to it. But for us, it’s just home. We know all the neighbors and the tea seller who comes around twice a day. It’s a busy, dusty, and very real place to work. It’s not perfect, but it is exactly where we belong.
