Diwan Chand Om Prakash

Our business is right on the main road of Chawri Bazar, specifically at number 3697, just opposite the Loha Bhawan building. This part of Old Delhi is always incredibly busy, and it has been that way for as long as anyone can remember. We are surrounded by shops selling metal and hardware, so the sound of trucks unloading and iron clanking is very familiar to us. We have been here for generations, and the shop looks like it. We have old wooden counters and shelves that are sagging under the weight of the stock. It is a family thing, passed down through the years. We don't use fancy computers for everything; a lot of our notes are still kept in paper ledgers. The Chawri Bazar Main Road is so narrow that sometimes it feels like the walls are closing in when a big cart passes by. We spend our days talking to long-time customers who have been coming to us for decades. It is a lot of hard work dealing with heavy materials and the heat of the city, but it is the only life we know. We drink a lot of tea and wait for the traffic to clear up at the end of the day. It is not a polished place, but it is honest and we know our trade better than anything else.
