Mahalaxmi Misthan Bhandar

This shop has been on Mansion Road for a long time. Being near Fatehpuri Church means there are always people walking by, whether they are tourists or folks going to work in the morning. The building at 659 is old and has a lot of character, even if the stairs are a bit narrow in places. We spend a lot of time in the back where the heat is. It’s where all the sweets are made in those big pans. It gets very hot in the summer months, but we are used to it by now. The smell of sugar and ghee is always in the air here. We put everything out in the glass displays every morning. Sometimes the flies try to get in from the street, so we have to be careful with the fans and screens. We don't have a lot of space for people to sit, so most customers just stand and eat or take their boxes to go. The floor is made of old stone and it’s seen a lot of feet over the years. We see the same faces every morning for their daily snacks. It’s a noisy part of town with all the rickshaws and carts outside. We don't bother with fancy signs or anything like that. People know the name Mahalaxmi and they know where to find us. It’s just how things are done in this part of Delhi.
