Gulab Chand & Sons

You’ll find Gulab Chand & Sons at 990-B Mali Wara, near Ajmeri Gate in Chandni Chowk. This is one of the oldest parts of the city. The lanes are so narrow that two people can barely walk side by side in some spots. Our shop has been here for generations. It’s a very old building with thick walls and high ceilings. We deal in traditional textiles and fabrics. The air inside always feels a bit heavy because there isn't much ventilation in these old lanes. We have wooden cabinets that are dark with age. Outside, you can hear the constant noise of rickshaws, bells, and people talking. It’s never quiet here. We have a small wooden platform where we sit and show the cloth to our customers. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep going. The electricity goes off sometimes, and we just light a few candles until it comes back on. It’s a bit of a squeeze when we have more than three people in the shop at once. We know all the families around here. Most of our day is spent unfolding fabric and then carefully rolling it back up. It’s a lot of manual work. We don't have any signs or big advertisements. People just know where we are because we’ve been here at Mali Wara for so long. It’s just how we've always operated.
