About Balaji Sohanpapdi Wale – Food & Beverages in North Delhi
Our shop is tucked away in Gali Number 10 on Safiabad Road in Narela. We have been making sohanpapdi here for many years. It is a family thing, really. My father taught us how to get the texture just right, so it melts when you eat it. It is hard work, standing over the big pots and pulling the sugar, but we are used to it. The shop is not very big, and most of the space is taken up by the kitchen and the boxes waiting to be filled. We do not just make it for festivals, we are here every day. People from around Narela know that if they need a box for a gift or just for home, they can come here. The street can be quite narrow and crowded, so sometimes it is hard for cars to get through. We just focus on the sweets. We do not use any machines for the main part because the hand-made way just tastes better, even if it takes longer. Sometimes the batch doesn’t come out perfect, maybe it’s a bit too hard because of the humidity, but we try our best every day. We aren't a big brand you see in the malls. We are just local people making what we know. If you walk down the lane, you can usually smell the ghee and sugar from a distance. We don't have a website or anything, just the shop on Safiabad Road.
