A One Supari

A One Supari is in the middle of Khari Baoli, specifically in Ramdev Market, Gali Batashan 17. If you’ve ever been to this part of Old Delhi, you know how crowded and loud it gets. Our shop is small and packed with bags of supari and other things we sell. There isn't much room to move around once the new stock comes in. We spend a lot of our time just moving heavy sacks from one corner to another. The air always smells a bit sweet and earthy because of what we handle. It’s a dusty place, to be honest. We don’t have any modern decor or bright lights. It’s just old shelves and wooden counters that have been here for years. We deal with people who buy in large quantities, so there’s always a lot of haggling and talking going on. It’s not a quiet job. You have to shout sometimes just to be heard over the noise of the market outside. We don’t have a big team, just a couple of us who know the inventory. We open up early when the market starts to wake up and we stay until the shutters go down in the evening. We don't have a fancy business plan or a mission. We just sell what people need and keep track of the bags in our old ledgers. It’s a traditional way of doing things in a very old part of town. Sometimes we sit on small stools outside when there is a rare quiet moment.
