Mahalaxmi Rice Mill

We've been at Plot No.1121 on Katari Hill Road for a while now. It's right near the FCI Godown, which makes it easy to find if you know the area. The mill gets pretty loud when everything is running, and there is always that smell of raw grain in the air. We spend most of our mornings moving heavy sacks around and making sure the machines don't jam up. It is dusty work, mostly. Sometimes the trucks arrive late and we have to wait around drinking tea until they get here. The yard gets muddy when it rains, so we have to be careful with the loading. Most days are just about keeping things moving. We don't have a fancy office or anything like that, just a desk and some chairs where we sit and talk about the day. People walk by on their way to the godown and say hello. The sun hits the front of the building in the afternoon and it gets quite warm inside. We try to keep the floors swept but with the rice coming in all the time, it is a bit of a losing battle. It’s a plain place, really. We just show up, do what needs doing with the rice, and go home when the sun goes down. Katari Hill Road is busy enough, so there is always something to look at while we take a break. It's just a normal mill doing normal work every day.
