Maa Vaishno Shewai

We have been here in Jhagnath Budhwari for a good while now. Our place is right near the Jhagnath Temple, so you can always hear the bells in the morning when we start work. We focus on making shewai. It’s a lot of work with the wheat and the machines. Sometimes the power goes out, which is a bit of a headache, but we manage. People around here know us as Maa Vaishno Shewai. We aren't a huge factory or anything fancy. It’s just a regular building where we get things done. Most days start early because that’s when it’s cooler. We spend hours drying the shewai and making sure it looks right before it goes into the packets. The neighborhood is busy, especially during festivals. We see the same faces every day walking past the temple. It’s a simple life. We don’t spend much on ads or big signs. Most people find us just by walking down the street or hearing about us from a neighbor. We try to keep the place tidy, though it gets dusty with all the flour around. If you come by, you’ll probably see us loading a few bags onto a rickshaw or just sitting outside for a tea break when the machines are resting. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s what we know.
