We’re situated along Manglana Road, and if you know this area, you know it’s a hub for stone. Dhoot Marbles Pvt. Ltd. might have a formal name, but on the ground, we’re just a bunch of people working with marble all day. The road out front is often busy with trucks carrying huge blocks from the quarries nearby. Our yard is usually a bit of a maze of white and grey slabs. We spend a lot of time walking around with customers, showing them the different textures and colors that come out of the earth. It’s not a quiet job. There’s always the sound of machines or the clatter of stone being moved around. We’ve been here for years, and we’ve seen the seasons change the way the stone looks when it’s wet or dry. We don't bother with fancy brochures or high-pressure sales stuff. We just let the stone speak for itself. Sometimes a piece has a crack we didn't see at first, or the color isn't quite right, and we just have to deal with those issues. It’s a tough business, but it’s what we know best. The dust gets on everything, and by the end of the day, we’re usually pretty tired. But there’s a certain satisfaction in seeing a beautiful piece of marble head off to be part of someone’s home. It’s just life here on Manglana Road.
