Our college, M E S College Of Arts Commerce & Business Management, sits on Omerkhayyam Road. It’s right in the middle of Tilak Nagar here in Mysore. It’s a busy part of town, so there is always something happening outside the gates. The building itself is an older style, typical for this part of Mysore. We have high ceilings and those heavy wooden doors that sometimes stick when it gets humid. Students are constantly moving between the arts and commerce sections, and the hallways get pretty packed between lectures. Tilaknagar has a lot of little shops nearby, so students are always heading out for snacks or photocopies during their breaks. The commerce and business management departments have their own areas, but everyone mingles in the common spaces. It’s not like those new, shiny universities you see in the advertisements. It’s a bit more lived-in. The floors are worn down from years of people walking on them. We have a lot of books and old files stored in the back rooms. Sometimes the fans make a clicking noise, but no one really notices anymore. It’s just the atmosphere of the place. We don’t have a big marketing department or anything like that. We are just a bunch of staff and students spending our days on Omerkhayyam Road. It gets quiet in the evenings after everyone leaves, which is a nice change from the morning rush. It's just a regular place where people come to learn and work.
