Yusuf Chitalwala

If you find yourself on Hill Road near the Saifee Ambulance, you’ll probably see the Rani Manzil building. That is where we are, at number 41377 Sandhut Road. Yusuf Chitalwala is the name on the board, but most people around here just know us by sight. The building is older, with high ceilings and those big windows that let in a lot of dust from the road. We spend our days dealing with whatever comes through the door. It’s a family-style environment here, not very formal at all. Sometimes my cousins or friends drop by just to sit for a bit while we work. The space is filled with things we’ve collected over the years, not just work stuff but also personal bits and pieces. Hill Road is always loud with people shopping and cars honking, so it never feels quiet in the office. We usually have a radio playing in the background to mask some of the noise. The work itself can be tedious, looking at figures and making calls, but it’s what we know how to do. We don’t really bother with fancy signs or advertisements. People find us because they’ve been coming here for a long time or someone told them about us. It’s just a small local spot where we try to stay on top of things. By the time evening rolls around, we’re usually pretty tired, but there’s always something left to do for tomorrow. We just lock up and head home like everyone else.
