Viraki Brothers

We are Viraki Brothers, located in the Masjid area at 280/282. If you know this part of the city, you know how crowded and hectic it is. It's all narrow streets and people carrying heavy loads. Our place is right in the thick of it. We have two units, 280 and 282, which are right next to each other. We’ve been here for generations, really. It’s an old family business. The building shows its age, with the peeling paint and the narrow stairs. We don't mind. It's got history. We spend the whole day dealing with vendors and customers and the occasional lost tourist. It’s loud, it’s dusty, and it’s always busy. We don't have fancy office chairs or air conditioning in every room. We use old wooden desks that have been here longer than I have. Masjid is a place where business happens fast. You have to be quick or you get left behind. We don't use much technology. We still write a lot of things down by hand in ledgers. It works for us. We aren't trying to be modern. We just do what our fathers and grandfathers did. It’s about being here every day and making sure the orders are correct. We close up late and the streets are still busy even then. It’s a tiring life but it’s what we know. We’re just part of the fabric of Masjid and we like it here.
