J. B. & Co.

We are up here on the third floor of Bhagubhai Chambers in Room 25, which is located at number 363. If you know Katha Bazar, you know how busy it gets around Masjid Bunder. It is not the easiest place to find if you are new to the area, but we have been here long enough that most people around the building know where Room 25 is. J. B. & Co. is basically just us sitting around a couple of old desks piled with files and ledgers. Sometimes the lift works and sometimes you have to take the stairs, which is quite a climb when it is hot outside. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we mostly just focus on getting the daily paperwork done and keeping track of everything coming in. It is noisy outside with all the handcarts and people shouting, but once you get inside our little room, it is a bit quieter. We have a small window that looks out over some of the roofs, though there is not much of a view. It is just a regular office where we do our business day in and day out. Most of our time is spent on the phone or checking the mail. We have been in this spot for a while now and the neighbors in the other rooms are mostly familiar faces. It is just a practical place to work, nothing fancy or modern about it. We keep a few chairs for visitors, but they are usually covered in newspapers or folders.
