Our shop, Lakshmi Shri Leatherware, is tucked away at No-8 on Rajendra Prasad Road. You’ll find us in the Nehru Nagar area of Chromepet. If you know the neighborhood, you know it’s a place where people actually work with their hands. There is always that distinct smell of leather in the air when you walk through our doors. It’s a bit of a cramped space sometimes because we have so many hides and half-finished items sitting around on the benches. We aren’t really into the whole big-brand lifestyle. We just make leather goods. Some of the tools we use are pretty old, but they still get the job done better than the new stuff. The traffic on Rajendra Prasad Road can be a bit much in the evenings, but we don’t mind. It brings people by. We’ve had locals coming in for years just to see what’s new or to ask about a repair. It’s a simple business. We don't have a fancy showroom with bright lights. Most of our work happens right there in the back where the noise is. We just try to keep things honest and make sure the leather is handled right. It’s a lot of manual labor and long hours, but seeing a finished piece makes it worth it. We’re just a local business trying to do things the old-fashioned way without making a big fuss about it.
