You can find us at Room No 4 in Gulabbai Chawl. It’s over in Santacruz West, right near the Diamond Bakery. The smell of fresh bread usually tells you you're close if you're walking from the station. We run the travel desk from this small room. Most of our days are spent on the phone or looking at train and bus schedules on the computer. It gets really busy during the holiday seasons when everyone wants to head out of the city at the same time. We handle the bookings and try to figure out the best routes for people. Sometimes the internet is slow, or the phone line crackles, and we have to wait a bit to confirm things, but that’s just how it goes. People from around the neighborhood stop by to ask about ticket prices or just to see if any new tours are coming up for the summer. It’s a simple office, just some plastic chairs and a wooden desk where we keep all the registers. Santacruz is a lively place to work, especially in the evenings. We see a lot of people passing by on their way to the market or the bakery. We don't have a big corporate office with glass walls, just this spot where we've been for years. Handling travel plans can be a bit of a headache with all the sudden changes, but we manage. We just sit here, take the calls, and help folks get to where they need to go. It’s steady work for us.
