Vijay Engineers

We’ve been here at Damji Shamji Industrial Estate for quite a long time now. Vikhroli is a busy place, and L.B.S. Marg always has traffic moving past. Our workshop at number 20 is where most of the work happens every day. It’s not a fancy office, just a real engineering space with machines and tools all over. The guys come in early, usually around nine, and we start looking at the drawings for whatever needs making that week. Sometimes it’s small parts, other times it’s bigger jobs that take up a lot of floor space. We deal with a lot of local businesses around here. You can hear the sounds of metal work through the walls of the estate. It gets dusty, and we drink a lot of tea while we figure out how to fix a machine or cut a piece of steel just right. There isn’t much to look at from the outside, but inside we are usually swamped with some project or another. Most people find us because they know the area well. It’s just how things go in this part of Mumbai. We don't spend time on fancy posters. We just focus on getting the measurements right and making sure the lathes are running properly at Vijay Engineers. It is honest work and it keeps us occupied from Monday to Saturday. Sometimes the rain makes the road outside a bit of a mess, but we keep the shutters open and stay at it.
