Vidhata Masala Store

The smell is the first thing people notice when they come near our store on Fatak Road. We are at 158/1, right at the 4th Cross in Goregaon West. Being on Road No 1 means there is always a lot of foot traffic and people rushing to the station. We sell masalas, so our shop is full of big open bags of spices. The air is always a bit spicy, which makes some people sneeze when they first walk in. We spend our time weighing out powders and seeds for the locals who live around here. It is a very hands-on kind of job. Our hands usually end up stained yellow from the turmeric by the end of the shift. We do not have a computer system that tracks everything perfectly; we still write a lot of things down in our ledger books. The shelves are old wooden ones that have been there for years. We know most of the regular customers by name and what they usually buy for their Sunday lunch. It gets very busy in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work and realizes they forgot to buy ginger or cumin. We do not do any big promotions or anything. The spices are just good and people seem to like how they taste. It is just a small local store doing its thing in the middle of Goregaon.
