We’ve been here at Prabhadevi Mangal Bazar for a good while now. It’s a busy spot, especially on market days when everyone is out buying clothes or household stuff. We started Vasant Ice Cream because we just liked making it, really. It gets hot in the afternoons, so people pop in for a scoop to cool down. We don't have fancy machines that do everything. Most things are done by hand in the back. Sometimes the mango is a bit sweeter one week than the next, but that’s just how fruit is. We keep the place tidy, though it gets crowded in the evenings when families come by after dinner. You’ll see us mostly behind the counter, scooping out different flavors into cups or cones. There’s no big secret to what we do. We just use milk, sugar, and whatever flavor we’re making that day. It's a small shop. You might miss it if you aren't looking, but the regulars know where we are. We see the same faces every week, kids growing up and then coming back with their own kids. It’s nice being part of the neighborhood like that. We don't do much advertising. People just find us or hear about us from their neighbors. If you’re around Mangal Bazar and need a break from the walking, you can stop by. We usually have the fan going and plenty of cold stuff ready in the freezer. It’s not fancy, but it works for us and the people who come by. We keep it simple.
