Our spot is at 14, Kamathipura, in House No. 14. We are on the first floor in Rooms 5 and 6, right on S.P. Road in Mumbai. It’s in the Nagpada area, near the K.D. Building. If you know Mumbai, you know this is a crowded, old part of the city. We make gelato here, which might seem a bit strange given the location, but it works for us. The space is small and we have to be very organized with our equipment. It gets really hot in the summer, so the cooling units are always humming loudly. We focus on making the gelato in small batches. There’s no big factory or automated lines, just us in those two rooms. It can be a bit of a squeeze when we have a lot of ingredients delivered. The stairs up to the first floor are narrow, and S.P. Road is always loud with traffic and people shouting. We don’t have a fancy storefront with neon lights. It’s more of a workshop where the actual making happens. We’ve been in Nagpada for a while and the locals are used to seeing us around. It’s a lot of hard work, cleaning the machines and making sure the flavors come out right every time. It’s just a small Mumbai business trying to make something people like to eat on a hot day. We just keep our heads down and keep the freezers running.
