To find Vandana Corporation, you have to head up to the 1st floor at 19 Telgal in Vithalwadi. It’s right near the Mangala Devi Mandir in the Old Khar section of Kalbadevi. The stairs are a bit narrow and steep, so you have to watch your step when you’re carrying anything heavy. Being on the first floor keeps us a little away from the direct noise of the street, though the bells from the temple still reach us clearly. The office is a mix of old wooden cupboards and some newer metal shelves we added last year. It’s a practical setup for the kind of trade work we do. We don’t spend money on decorations because that doesn’t help us get the orders out. The windows look out over the rooftops of the neighborhood. It’s an old part of the city, and you can feel that history in the walls. We have a couple of ceiling fans that have been running since the day we opened. Sometimes the power flickers, but we just keep working. Most of our day is spent checking ledgers and talking to suppliers. It’s a bit dusty, and the files are starting to pile up, but we know where everything is. We don’t try to be anything we aren't. We’re just a small corporation handling our daily business in a corner of Kalbadevi that feels like home. It’s about being reliable and staying put in one place.
