Vafas Chocolates

Vafas Chocolates is tucked away in the Cumballa Hill area. It is a nice part of town, but our operation is pretty modest. We started making chocolates because it was something we enjoyed doing at home. Eventually, it turned into this small business. We do not have a giant factory with machines doing everything. A lot of it is still done by hand in our small kitchen space. Working with chocolate can be tricky because of the heat in the city, so we have to be careful with the temperature and the cooling. We spend a lot of time experimenting with different batches. Sometimes they turn out great, and sometimes we have to start over because something wasn't right. We are not interested in being a massive brand you see in every grocery store. We like being a local secret that people in Cumballa Hill know about. We do not use fancy packaging that costs more than the chocolate itself. We just focus on the taste and making sure people get what they paid for. It is a quiet life here most of the time. We have our regulars who come in for gifts or just a little treat for themselves. We do not do big sales pitches. If people like the chocolate, they come back. That is the only way we have ever wanted to grow. It is a labor of love, even on the days when the kitchen feels too small and the orders are piling up. We just keep melting and molding.
