Dadar East is a very busy place and our stall is right in the middle of it. We are at Stall No B 61 on Sir Bhalchandra Road. It’s a small spot but everyone knows Damodar Sweets nearby, so that’s usually how people find their way to us. Being near the station means there is always a crowd and a lot of noise from the trains and the buses. We spend a lot of time looking at schedules and talking to people about where they want to go for their holidays or work trips. Sometimes the internet is slow and we have to tell people to wait a bit while we check for seats. It’s not a fancy travel agency with big glass windows. It is just a regular stall where we keep our notebooks and some folders. The weather in Mumbai makes the stall quite hot in the afternoons, but we have a small fan that helps. We get all kinds of people coming by, some just asking for directions and others looking to book a long trip back to their villages. It’s a humble way to earn a living. We know the Dadar area like the back of our hand. If the tea stall guy is late, we all notice it. We just handle the bookings and try to make sure people get their tickets on time. It is straightforward work without any complications.
